Shannan’s path to law was shaped by her firsthand experiences with systemic inequities in healthcare. After earning her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, she worked as a consultant pharmacist and encountered disparities affecting underrepresented populations. Her service as a medic in the United States Army also sparked her commitment to advocacy and justice. Recognizing the intersection between health and law, Shannan pursued a legal career to address the structural and legal determinants of health disparities.
During law school, Shannan distinguished herself as an academic achiever and a leader. She began her legal studies at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School but graduated cum laude from Georgia State University College of Law. Her academic accomplishments earned her the Charity Scott Health Law Award, as well as certificates with distinction in Health Law and Public Interest. She also completed the Community Health Leadership Program at Morehouse School of Medicine, focusing on environmental justice and health equity, and was recognized with the Gate City Bar Judicial Scholarship and GABWA Foundation’s Kimberly Esmond Adams Scholarship.
Throughout her legal education, Shannan championed the intersection of public health and law, encouraging her peers to advocate for racial justice, health equity, and policy reform. She served as Chair and Social Action Director of the Southern Regional Black Law Students Association (SRBLSA). She co-founded the ACLU/SRBLSA Southern Legal Internship Program (SLIP), which attracts Black law students to civil rights work in the South. Her leadership extended to the Equal Justice Initiative and the ABA Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders Interest Group while remaining an active member of GABWA and the Gate City Bar Association.
Before joining Davis Bozeman Johnson Law, Shannan was a Gwinnett County, Georgia prosecutor, earning a reputation for professionalism, fairness, and objectivity. She also worked as a Public Health Analyst contractor with the CDC’s Public Health Law Program, focusing on maternal health, health disparities, and structural racism. Shannan is licensed to practice in Georgia, including the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the Court of Appeals of Georgia, and the Supreme Court of Georgia. Additionally, she is a registered mediator with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution.
Shannan’s diverse background in healthcare and law provides her with a comprehensive perspective on legal matters. Her commitment to addressing racial injustice and advancing the well-being of underserved communities is central to her practice.
